Write about Hala with special reference to his work ‘Gaatha Saptha Shati’?
Haala was the 17th ruler among the Satavahanas. He was a great patron of arts and letters. Haala’s titles were ‘Kavi Vatsala’ and ‘Kavi Raja’. Gunaadya, court poet of Haala taught him literary standards in a short span of time. Haala authored a book named ‘Gaatha Satpha Shati’.
Gaatha Satpha Shati depicts the contemporary society common people’s life style. Many Telugu words are found in Gaatha Satpha Shati’. It is consists 700 stories. It is an anthology of Mahaarashtri Prakrit poems. It is actually a compilation in Haala’s own literary style.
According to a Prakrit book named ‘Leelavathi Parinayam’, Haala’s marriage ceremony with Leelavathi, a Srilankan Princes, was performed in Sapthama Godavari area.
Vijaya naatha was the military general of Haala.
Gunadya taught Haala the literary standards of a poet. Gunadya is the first poet from Telangana region. He authored ‘Brihathkatha’.
Sharva varma, author of Kaathanthraya Vyakarana was another court poet of Haala.
