How Telangana Political Joint Action Committee was formed and what is its role in the Telangana Movement?

Ans: Telangana Political JAC was formed on 24th December 2009, achieving Separate Statehood to Telangana as its sole aim.

On 27 December 27, Praja Sanghala JAC was formed as a result of a meeting in Life Insurance Corporation building, near Paradise Hotel, Secunderabad. All the members of all JACs were part of Executive Council.

Professor Kodandaram was the convener of Political JAC.

 

The programmes organized by TJAC in Telangana:

1st March 2011 – Rail Roko in every village.

  1. 10 March 2011 – Million March
  2. 30 Septemer 2012 – Telangana March
  3. 21 March 2013 – Sadak Bandh
  4. 17 February 2011 – Non – co-operation.
  5. 19 June 2011 – Vanta Vaarpu (Cooking and dining on roads and public places).
  6. 21 March 2013 – Sadak Bandh
  7. 13 September 2012 – Sakalajanula Samme.

 

 

1st March 2011 – Rail Roko in every village: Telangna Joint Action Committee gave call to stop trains in every Telangana Village with the name ‘Rail Roko’. As a precaution, South Central Railway stopped all the trains in this route. Transport was ceased via Telangana to other states.

 

  1. 10 March 2011 – Million March: On 21st February 2011, Students’ JAC gave call of ‘Chalo Assembly’ and Lawyers’ JAC gave call of ‘Chalo Raj Bhavan’. Both the movements became a big success. With the encouragement got from these movements Students’ JAC and Lawyers’ JAC jointly gave a call for another movement named ‘Telangana Jathara’. As a part of this, on 10th March 2011, they planned to block moments in Hyderabad in the first week of April 2011. The very next day KCR gave call for Million March on Tank Bund, Secunderabad. KCR gave call to all the people of Telangana to participate in Million March. Million March was inspired from the ‘Blockage of Tehrik Chowk junction Cairo, Egypt’. In Egypt Tehrik Chowk junction was blocked for many days, but Million March was pertained to only one day. Without any discussions and consultations with Political JAC, T.R.S. party and K.C.R. individually organized million march. With broad mind all the Political JACs joined hands with KCR to make it a big success.

As there plus2 exams (intermediate exams) were starting from 10th March, parents of students urged to postpone million march. As inter exam was there in forenoon, Political JAC wanted to conduct it from afternoon 1pm to 4pm on 10th March 2011.

Members of People’s New Democratic Party reached Tank Bund by 2 pm. Later members of various JACs, students, members of various political parties reached Tank Bund.

People attacked on MadhuYashki Goud and Keshava Rao who reached Tank Bund to participate in Million March.

 

  1. 30 Septemer 2012 – Telangana March
  2. 21 March 2013 – Sadak Bandh
  3. 17th February 2011 to 4th March 2011– Non – co-operation: Actually people started surrounding Collectorates to agitate against the report of Sri Krishna Committee. Slowly this agitation took the form of non-cooperation movement. Keeping in view the Budget meetings, Non-cooperation movement was started. TJAC aspired to liberate the Telangana leaders from the ideological slavery to Andhra people and leaders. During this movement TJAC demanded the political procedure required for the formation of Telangana. This movement lasted for 16days.

On 21st February 2011, in Lokh Sabha, the then President of India, Prathibha Patil’s speech regarding Budget was interrupted by the Congress M.P.s.

As a part of Non-Cooperation movement Telangana bandh was observed on 22 and 23 of February 2011.

 

  1. 19 June 2011 – Vanta Vaarpu (Cooking and dining on roads and public places): This movement was started on 19th June 2011. People enthusiastically participated in this movement, as a part of this prepared food and dined on the roads and public places.

Vanta Vaarpu was organized by C.P.I. (M.L.) members in Narayanaguda, Hyderabad. Gaddhar, Chairman of Telangana Praja Front and Vimalakka participated in this movement in Narayanaguda.

 

  1. 21 March 2013 – Sadak Bandh: To increase pressure on government, JAC gave call for Sadak Bandh on 21st March 2013. Sadak Bank movement achieved a huge success. Roads were blocked from Shamshabad to Alampur in Mahabubnagar district.

Inspired by this movement, many Telangana people blocked roads and highways which lead to Andhra. Some even went to the extent of constructing walls on the roads.

 

  1. 13 September 2012 – Sakalajanula Samme:

There are three objectives of Sakalajanula Samme:

  1. Making the political leaders to participate in Telangana agitations.
  2. Liberating people from the social, political and ideological domination of Andhra people and making them participate in Telangana movement.
  3. Fight against the Andhra rich and investors in Telangana.

On 12th September 2011, Jana Garjhana Sabha was convened in Karimnagar. In this public meeting, Telangana Employees JAC gave call for Sakala Janula Samme / Universal Strike.

Role of Employees in Sakalajanula Samme: Employees Associations’ JAC crossed many obstacles to make it a big success.

On 30th September 2011, Congress Core Committee invited Telangana leaders for talks. TRS leaders K.C.R., Hareesh Rao, Vinod Kumar, Eetela Rajender and TJAC Convener Professor Kodandaram, Employees’ JAC leaders Swamy Goud and Srinivas Goud and Vital were among the 40 leaders attended the talks in Delhi.

On the pretext of instigating people for violent activities K.C.R., Swamy Goud, Vital were arrested after a meeting at Indira Park, Hyderabad on 11 October 2011.

The Sakalajanula Samme which was commenced on 13th September 2011 continued till 24th October 2011 (42 days).

 

 

Q: Telangana March – Sagara Haram: Telangana leaders asked DGP for permission to conduct Telangana March and Saagara Haaram programme. They chose Tank Bund as their destination for this event. DGP denied permission of the grounds of security reasons, but from the beginning Andhra Government was not giving any permission and added to that creating all obstacles to the agitators. DGP suggested changing the venue to Necklace Road and completing the event with in a stipulated time of 3pm to 7pm. After taking a written statement from the JAC leaders assuring that there won’t be any violent activity during the event, the DGP gave permission for Sagara Haaram. To stop people attending Telangana March / Saagara Haaram, government ordered police to stop the agitators in their villages itself. Local trains were cancelled. Osmania University students were stopped at NCC gate. In-spite of all the obstacles people managed to attend Sagara Haram in large number by pm.

Singer Rasamayi Balakishan’s live performance instilled Telangana sentiment in the agitators even more.

 

Q: Chalo Assembly

Chalo Assembly agitation was convened on 13th June 2013 by Political JAC. Government also considered stopping the agitation as a prestige issue and did everything to stop people’s participation in it. In all the 10 districts of Telangana thousands of people were arrested.

Police revealed that they arrested 700 persons in Hyderabad and 476 persons in Cyberabad police station limits. This program lasted from 8am to 4pm. Agitators escaped the wall of police crossing the barbed wire obstacles and made this agitation a big success.
